Elevate PondGard (Firestone) - EPDM Pond Liners - Lifetime Guarantee

Elevate PondGard EPDM pond liner, previously widely known as Firestone PondGard, is a premium 1.0mm rubber pond liner designed for long-term pond, lake, stream and water feature installations. Its heavier-duty EPDM construction makes it a strong choice for koi ponds, larger garden ponds, wildlife ponds, waterfalls and more demanding pond builds.

PondGard EPDM is flexible enough to shape into natural pond contours while offering the added confidence of a thicker 1.0mm rubber liner. It is particularly useful where there may be a higher risk of puncture from above, such as larger ponds, public areas, wildlife ponds or ponds where children may use nets or pond dipping equipment.

For best results, we strongly recommend installing Elevate PondGard EPDM with a suitable pond liner underlay to protect the liner from stones, roots and rough ground beneath the pond.

Elevate PondGard / Firestone EPDM Pond Liner Features

  • Premium 1.0mm EPDM rubber pond liner
  • Previously widely known as Firestone PondGard
  • Suitable for koi ponds, larger ponds, streams, waterfalls and wildlife ponds
  • Heavier-duty option compared with lighter 0.75mm EPDM liners
  • Good flexibility for natural pond shapes and detailed installations
  • Resistant to outdoor weathering, UV exposure, frost and temperature changes
  • Compatible with aquatic life when correctly installed
  • Can be joined and repaired using suitable EPDM seaming and repair systems
  • Recommended for use with protective pond liner underlay

Because Elevate PondGard / Firestone EPDM is a 1.0mm liner, it is particularly useful where there may be a greater risk of puncture from above, such as public ponds, wildlife ponds, pond dipping areas or larger installations. However, for smaller ponds with tight shelves and detailed folds, the lighter 0.75mm Greenseal EPDM liner may sometimes be easier to install neatly.

Which Pond Liner Should I Choose?

Pond Liner Type Thickness Flexible / Elastic Best For Main Benefit Things To Consider
Greenseal EPDM Pond Liner 0.75mm Yes Most domestic garden ponds, fish ponds, wildlife ponds and general water features Excellent balance of flexibility, durability, ease of installation and value Usually the best all-round choice for standard garden ponds, especially where easy folding and shaping are important
Elevate PondGard
/ Firestone EPDM Pond Liner
1.0mm Yes Koi ponds, larger ponds, wildlife ponds, public areas, waterfalls, streams and demanding installations Premium 1.0mm EPDM rubber with extra thickness and added puncture resistance Excellent for higher-risk installations, but heavier and less flexible than 0.75mm EPDM on tight folds, small ponds and narrow shelves
Butyl Rubber Pond Liner 0.75mm Yes Traditional premium pond builds and complex pond shapes Very flexible and long-established pond liner material Usually more expensive than modern EPDM liners, so often chosen for specific preference rather than best value
PVC Pond Liner 0.5mm No Small ponds, temporary ponds and budget-conscious projects Lower initial purchase cost Less durable and less flexible long-term than EPDM or Butyl rubber liners

Our general recommendation: For most domestic garden ponds, Greenseal EPDM gives the best balance of quality, flexibility and value. For larger ponds, koi ponds, public areas, waterfalls, streams or installations where extra puncture resistance is important, Elevate PondGard / Firestone EPDM is often the better choice.

Ask a question

If you need to ask a question about Elevate PondGard (Firestone) - EPDM Pond Liners - Lifetime Guarantee you can do so here.

Is PondGard EPDM suitable for wildlife ponds?

Yes. PondGard EPDM can be a very good option for wildlife ponds, especially where there may be more natural insect activity or greater risk of puncture from above. In smaller wildlife ponds, you should also consider whether the heavier 1.0mm liner will be easy to fold and shape neatly.

Is 1.0mm PondGard better than 0.75mm Greenseal EPDM?

Not always. PondGard is thicker and more suitable for demanding installations, but Greenseal EPDM is often easier to fold and shape in smaller domestic ponds. For many standard garden ponds, Greenseal offers an excellent balance of quality, flexibility and value. For larger ponds, koi ponds, public areas and higher-risk installations, PondGard is often the better choice.

Can PondGard EPDM be repaired?

Yes. EPDM pond liners can usually be repaired using suitable EPDM repair patches and compatible joining products, provided the liner surface is clean, dry and correctly prepared.

Can PondGard EPDM liners be joined together?

Yes. PondGard EPDM can be joined using compatible EPDM seaming systems. This is particularly useful for larger ponds, lakes, streams and waterfalls where a single liner sheet may not be practical.

Do I need underlay with PondGard EPDM?

Yes. We strongly recommend using pond liner underlay beneath PondGard EPDM. Underlay helps protect the liner from stones, roots and rough ground, and can also be used above the liner where rocks or decorative stonework may rub against the liner surface.

Is PondGard EPDM fish safe?

Yes. PondGard EPDM is designed for pond and lake use and is suitable for aquatic life when correctly installed.

Is PondGard EPDM suitable for waterfalls and streams?

Yes. PondGard EPDM is a good choice for waterfalls, streams and more complex water feature installations because it combines flexibility with the added durability of a 1.0mm rubber liner.
